The Government of Senegal has taken a major step in its digital transformation strategy by certifying 3,467 public education professionals in digital skills and artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative reflects the country’s strong commitment to building a future-ready education system powered by modern technology.
Major Milestone in Digital Education Reform
Through the Ministry of National Education, Senegal awarded two key certifications: the Digital Skills Certificate (C2i-Edu) and the Artificial Intelligence in Education Certificate (CIA-Edu). These certifications aim to strengthen the ability of teachers and education staff to use digital tools, AI technologies, and smart learning systems in classrooms and administrative processes.
The official ceremony was led by Minister of National Education Moustapha Guirassy, alongside the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. Senior representatives from the Ministry of Communications, Telecommunications and Digital Marketing also attended the event, highlighting strong government support for education technology development.
High Success Rate Demonstrates Strong Capacity Building
Out of 3,909 candidates who participated in the examinations, 3,467 public education agents successfully earned certification. This represents an impressive overall pass rate of 88.69%, showing significant progress in national digital skills training.
The AI in Education Certificate (CIA-Edu) achieved an outstanding 93.1% pass rate, demonstrating strong understanding and adoption of artificial intelligence concepts among participants. Meanwhile, the C2i-Edu certification recorded an 85.3% success rate, with intermediate and advanced levels exceeding 96%, reflecting advanced competency development across multiple departments.
These results confirm the effectiveness of Senegal’s investment in AI education, teacher training, and digital capacity building.
National Expansion and Focus on Inclusion
Following this success, the Ministry of National Education plans to expand the programme nationwide. The next phase will include additional support for beginners to ensure broader participation and better learning outcomes.
The government also aims to increase female participation in digital education programmes, promoting gender inclusion in technology and AI training. By doing so, Senegal is working toward a more balanced and inclusive workforce in the education sector.
Strengthening a Future-Ready School System
This certification programme forms part of Senegal’s long-term strategy to create a modern, efficient, and inclusive education system. By equipping teachers and public education staff with digital literacy and AI skills, the country is preparing its workforce to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital world.
With continued investment in education reform, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence integration, Senegal is positioning itself as a regional leader in education technology innovation.
