The Network Planning Group (NPG), led by DPIIT Secretary E Srinivas, recently assessed 11 major infrastructure projects spanning roads, railways, information technology (IT), and metro networks. This initiative is part of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP), aimed at enhancing multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency across India.
The review focused on seven key road projects designed to improve regional mobility, boost trade connectivity, and reduce traffic congestion. These include the Kishanganj-Bahadurganj Four-Lane Highway in Bihar, the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road, and the Zirakpur Bypass Six-Lane Highway in Punjab and Haryana. These projects will play a crucial role in strengthening economic corridors and ensuring smoother transport networks.
In the railway sector, two major projects were evaluated: the Bhagalpur-Jamalpur Broad Gauge Line in Bihar and the doubling of the Aurangabad-Parbhani railway line in Maharashtra. These initiatives will increase freight capacity, improve passenger movement, and reduce congestion on vital rail corridors such as Vijayawada-Balharshah and Secunderabad-Mumbai.
Additionally, the National Knowledge Network (NKN) Phase-II, a high-speed digital infrastructure project, was reviewed to support research institutions, universities, and government departments. The GIFT City Metro Corridor, a 7.58 km metro project in Gujarat, was also examined for its potential to enhance urban mobility, lower fuel consumption, and reduce emissions.
These infrastructure projects are set to transform connectivity, accelerate economic growth, and improve transportation efficiency. With PM GatiShakti’s integrated approach, these developments will significantly strengthen India’s infrastructure landscape, driving progress in trade, industry, and urban mobility.
