India strongly criticized Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during the Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security, calling out its alleged systematic human rights abuses and propaganda.
India’s Statement at UNSC
Speaking on Tuesday, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, described Pakistan as a country that “bombs its own people” and carries out systematic genocide. He added that Pakistan attempts to distract the international community through “misdirection and hyperbole.”
Ambassador Harish emphasized India’s record on Women, Peace and Security, highlighting it as “unblemished and pioneering.” He criticized Pakistan for repeating the same narrative against India every year, particularly on Jammu and Kashmir, which he reaffirmed as an integral part of India.
“Every year, we are unfortunately fated to listen to the delusional tirade of Pakistan against my country,” Harish stated.
Historical Context of Pakistan’s Human Rights Record
The Indian envoy also referenced Operation Searchlight in 1971, alleging Pakistan conducted a systematic campaign of mass rape against 400,000 women citizens. He noted that such historical atrocities reflect a pattern of state-sponsored human rights violations.
“The world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda,” he added.
India’s Recent Criticism of Pakistan
Last week, India again condemned Pakistan for having “one of the world’s worst human rights records,” calling attention to systemic discrimination and state-sponsored persecution of religious and ethnic minorities within its own borders.
KS Mohammed Hussain, Counsellor at India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, stated:
“Their attempts to misuse international forums with fabricated allegations against India only expose their hypocrisy. Pakistan should address the rampant persecution and discrimination that exists in its own society.”
