The Bihar Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, recently approved 43 significant decisions, including major reforms in education and teacher recruitment policies. These initiatives aim to enhance the state’s educational framework, improve teacher retention, and boost minority welfare services.
Increased Attempts for Teacher Competency Tests
The Cabinet has extended the number of attempts for contractual teachers to clear their competency tests. Teachers will now have five attempts, up from the previous limit of three.
Revised Teacher Transfer Policies
Amendments to the Bihar Special Teacher Rules were approved, allowing teachers who clear the competency tests to stay in their current postings. This new teacher transfer policy ensures stability and consistency in educational services.
Recognition of Special Teachers
Out of 2,53,534 contractual teachers, a significant number have passed the competency tests and are now recognized as special teachers. These teachers will:
- Serve at their existing locations.
- Receive enhanced salaries designated for special teachers.
However, 85,609 teachers are yet to clear the tests, which may affect their status.
Boosting Minority Welfare Services
The Cabinet also approved the creation of 469 additional posts for Block Minority Welfare Officers under the Minority Welfare Department. This step is aimed at improving welfare services for minority communities across the state.
Additional Reforms for State Development
The Cabinet introduced initiatives across sectors such as:
- Education: Enhancements in policies to improve teaching standards.
- Health: New projects to strengthen healthcare services.
- Infrastructure: Development programs to accelerate state growth.
Government’s Vision for Development
Following the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary emphasized the importance of these decisions, highlighting their role in Bihar’s development and the smooth functioning of government operations.
These reforms are expected to significantly improve education, support teacher recruitment, and enhance minority welfare services, contributing to the overall growth of the state.
