A shocking incident in Chennai claimed the lives of a Bihar family. Police said a man, his wife, and their two-year-old child were killed by other migrant workers, possibly after the man objected to the harassment of his wife.
Authorities have arrested four suspects and detained one more. Police are still investigating the exact motive.
How the Crime Was Discovered
The tragedy came to light when a passerby noticed blood leaking from a gunny bag in a residential area. Police recovered the body of Gaurav Kumar, a security guard in Tharamani, and sent it for post-mortem.
CCTV footage showed two men carrying the gunny bag on a two-wheeler. During investigation, police learned the suspects had also killed Gaurav Kumar’s wife, Punitha, and their two-year-old child.
The child’s body was recovered from the Buckingham Canal near Madhya Kailash. Punitha’s body is believed to have been dumped at Perungudi landfill, and police are searching for it.
Police Investigation
A senior officer said all victims and suspects were from Bihar and knew each other. He added that a brawl over alcohol may have led to the killings.
“The exact motive is unclear,” the officer said. “They may have attempted to harass the woman. Four suspects are in custody, and one person is detained for questioning.”
Political Reactions
The horrific murders drew criticism from political leaders. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and BJP leader K Annamalai condemned the killings. They warned about rising lawlessness in Tamil Nadu.
The DMK responded that justice will take its course. DMK Women’s Wing Secretary and MP Kanimozhi called the incident “painful and disturbing” and praised the police for quick action. She urged that the accused receive the strictest punishment.
