The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several Indian states due to active monsoon conditions. A low-pressure system over Central India, along with cyclonic circulations and a western disturbance, is expected to bring intense showers in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, and Delhi/NCR between September 5 and 10, 2025.
West India: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa
Gujarat will witness extremely heavy rainfall, especially in Saurashtra and Kutch, on September 6–7. Meanwhile, Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra are likely to experience heavy to very heavy showers until September 6. Marathwada may receive isolated heavy rainfall on September 5.
Farmers in Gujarat and Maharashtra should prepare for waterlogging and crop damage.
Northwest India: Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab & Haryana
Rajasthan and Uttarakhand will see continuous heavy rain from September 5–8. West Rajasthan could experience very heavy showers on September 6–7, while East Rajasthan will get isolated heavy rain.
Punjab and Haryana may receive scattered showers, but conditions are expected to improve after September 10. Residents should remain cautious about localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Central & East India: Madhya Pradesh, Odisha & Bihar
The low-pressure area over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh will trigger widespread heavy rainfall. West Madhya Pradesh is likely to face very heavy rain on September 5, whereas East Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh will see isolated heavy showers.
Bihar may experience consistent rainfall from September 8–10, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will also get isolated showers during the same period.
Northeast India: Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland & Arunachal Pradesh
Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive heavy rain until September 7. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh will witness increased rainfall from September 6 onward. Prolonged showers could lead to flood risks in vulnerable regions.
South India: Kerala, Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh
The southern states will see lighter rainfall compared to northern and central India. Kerala and Mahe are likely to get isolated heavy showers on September 5. Tamil Nadu may experience heavy rain on September 8–9.
